FRIENDS NOT COMPETITION

When I was first exploring the world of photography, I would look online at all the photographers in my area and my only thought was “I just have to be better than them that way I’ll get more clients.”

Any time I saw photos of friends or acquaintances of mine taken by other photographers I would get upset. I would become almost resentful towards them thinking of them as only my competition. I had to be bigger and better if I was to succeed in the world of professional photographers.

If that is you, or if that is how you think, then stop it right now. Just stop.

The photographers in your area or anywhere are NOT your competition! They’re artists just like you who are passionate about their work just as much as you are!

One of the best things I’ve ever done was reach out and befriend a fellow photographer in my area. We’re now close friends who meetup for lunch and editing dates. We get excited for each other when the other one gets clients, and most importantly, we encourage and support one another no matter what!

So I would encourage you to reach out to the photographers in your area; get to know them, and build good relationships with them!

Don’t do it so you can get free pictures or to steal all their business tricks. Instead, do it so that you can have a healthy and good friendship with your fellow artists!

Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Xx Meghan :)
